Meet Theresa Moore, LCSW, LPC

I am a psychotherapist who has worked with individuals and families in the San Antonio community for over 35 years. Within these years  I divided my time between a private practice and the counselor at the San Antonio Academy for Boys, until May 2020.

My passion is for the growth and well-being of individuals and families seeking to improve their lives. Good intentions are not always enough to produce the desired results in relationships at home or at work. My goal is to create a safe and informed environment where people have the choice to identify life patterns and beliefs that have sabotaged dreams and goals. Building on the strengths already present and developing additional relationship skills, new pathways are created in our daily lives.

My approach is eclectic and a combination of both traditional and nontraditional therapeutic modalities. Some of the more traditional approaches are cognitive-behavior therapy, Gestalt therapy, internal family systems and psychoeducational information. Equine Facilitated Therapy and Learning as well as coaching are the more nontraditional approaches I use. Each person is an individual with a unique story. Using what is most helpful for one person may not be the same for the next.

In my years of experience, I have worked with every age group. Today I primarily work with adults and older adolescents. My expertise spans many of the issues that create social and emotional difficulties. Anxiety, depression, grief and loss, conflict resolution, communication skills, transitional skills, adjustment and emotional regulation are what I see most often in my practice. I am most known for my work with parents, adolescents and women’s issues.

I graduated from the University of Minnesota with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and received my master’s degree in social work from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas. I am also certified as an Advanced Clinical Practitioner in Social Work and a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Texas. I have been a contributing writer for various publications and have written a workbook for parents, titled A Parent’s Mind and a Child’s Heart.
